Raccoon with Watermelon (Favorite Animal #9)

Raccoon with Watermelon (Favorite Animal #9)

The Creating:

Growing up the Pacific Northwest I have always enjoyed the silly antics of raccoons. When I was a kid the raccoons would bring their babies onto my neighbors deck to eat cat food. We would silently watch in awe from the other side of the glass door till they finished eating and lumbered off. This little cutie has found some very tasty treasures.

In May I did a giveaway on Instagram, to enter I asked folks to leave their favorite animal in the comment section. I got so many wonderful responses that I decided to make everyones favorites. Many of these animals will only be made once and some I plan to revisit. This cutie is one of your favorites!

Hand sculpted from a durable porcelain-stoneware blend and crafted solid for a sturdy feel. This little cutie was lovingly sculpted, dried and fired to harden the clay. After this first firing, color was carefully applied. Once decorated this piece went back into the kiln for a second firing. During the firing, temperatures reach 2200 degrees F which fully hardens the clay. A full 24 hours later, the kiln is cool and this cute is ready to bring joy to your life.
